Blue Dragons Sweep Saints in Hutchinson

Brock Kappelmann - April 2, 2022 7:32 am

One day after a snow out at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, the Seward County Saints and Hutchinson Blue Dragons got together Friday.  Two competitive games ensued, but both went to the hometown Blue Dragons 2-1 and 10-8.

Game one was 1-0 Saints until the bottom of the seventh when the Dragons scored two to win it 2-1. Seward lost despite out-hitting Hutch 5-2.  Seward scored a run in the first.  Ranse Radtke was 2-3 with the run.  Mason Martinez pitched the distance going 6 and 2/3 with nine strikeouts and three walks.  However, it wasn’t enough and Martinez is 1-6 on the season.

In game two, Hutchinson led 3-1 before the Saints plated three in the third to lead 4-3.  Hutch scored two in the bottom of the third to lead 5-4.  Seward tied the game with a run in the fifth.  The Dragons scored five in the eighth before the Seward rally fell short with three in the ninth.  Hutch out-hit Seward 14-10.  Jacob Masters was 3-5 with a home run and two RBI’s and two runs.  Luke Williams was 2-3 with two runs and Ranse Radtke was 2-5 with two runs.  Tristan Curless was six innings allowing five runs with three strikeouts and one walk.  The Seward bullpen struggled thereafter.

Seward falls to 11-24 overall and 4-10 in the Jayhawk West.  Hutchinson is 16-12 and 6-4 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward hosts Hutchinson at 1pm Saturday at Brent Gould Field with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270, 92.3, and the KSCB and The Legend App.
