Eisenhower 7th Grade MSWAC Tournament Recap
Submitted by Coach Babinec
The Eisenhower Warrior Boys 7th Grade team competed this past weekend in the MSWAC Tournament as the seventh seed. The boys opened play against 2nd seeded Great Bend on Thursday. The Warriors played a phenomenal first half.moving the ball well, great defense as well as rebounding the ball on both sides of the court. Eisenhower was tied with the Panthers at 12 looking to keep momentum up for the second half. Midway through the third, after a two point Panther lead, Great Bend hit one of two three pointers.Leading by five and a quick time out couldn’t stop the Panther charge as they went on to a 35 -20 win over the Warriors. Wyatt Mannel & David Gilmore lead the Warriors with 6 points each.
Saturday morning the Warriors were scheduled with Kenneth Henderson. The Warriors again started the game and the first half playing stellar basketball. Offensively we moved the ball well, aggressively rebounded and finished shots. Just like Thursday’s match -up, the Warriors had trouble in the third getting any rhythm. Up by five at the half the Warriors were outscored 8-1. We still had the game in reach, even up to the final minute. We didn’t step up and finish shots, while letting their best player take control. The Warriors again fell short 23-17. Ismael Calderon led the Warriors with 5 points.
In the final game, The Warriors competed against crosstown Seymour Rogers. Both teams opened up trading baskets before the Warriors took control. After one period the Warriors held an 11-6 lead. Eisenhower continued to play well on both sides of the court taking a 20 -11 lead at the half. Unlike the previous two games, the Warriors lit up the scoreboard doubling the Apaches to extend the lead to 36-19 after three quarters. Eisenhower finished the game with a 44-22 victory. Leading scorers for the Warriors included Max Holman 13, Brayden Austin 8, and Aideyn Castillo 5.
I was extremely proud of how the boys played in all three games. We couldn’t get much rhythm with Great Bend during the season. I was very happy with how we responded Thursday night in the first half. The Panthers beat us with athleticism and out hustled us. Same results for the first game on Saturday. We responded by moving the ball, finding the open guy, finishing shots and defending the ball. Third quarter we got away from it, losing momentum. We were able to finish the season on a high note with everyone contributing on both sides of the court. Great Job Warriors!
7A from Coach Olvera –
The Seymour Rogers 7th grade basketball A-team had their first game of the
league basketball tournament on Thursday against DCMS. The Apaches started
off with great energy trying to score against the Cardinals to get the win.
In the first quarter, the score of the game was pretty even, 5-7. The
Apaches played great defense and offense. Abraham Ruiz scored the first two
points by making a layup from the right side followed by Juan Diego who
made a three point shot and Iker who made a shot from under the basket.
After the second quarter, the Apaches started to tire down which gave the
Cardinals more opportunities to score. The Apaches kept playing with a lot
of effort trying to find more opportunities to score and get the victory.
However, the game ended 48-7 in favor of the Cardinals.
