Lady Saint Season Ends in Semifinals

It was a step further than last year.  But ultimately, it wasn’t the finish the Seward Lady Saints wanted in Salina.  Hutchinson beat Seward 92-84 Friday evening in the semifinals of the Region 6 Basketball Tournament at Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina.  It was the first time the region played in Salina since 2005.  That year, Jim Littell’s Lady Saints made it three of three against the Lady Dragons.  Seward fell short in that regard.

Hutch led most of the game.  The Lady Dragons led 24-18 after one and led 45-39 at halftime.  Hutchinson led 68- 62 after three.  The Lady Saints cobbled the lead down to 81-80 but couldn’t get over the hump.

Hutch dominated SCCC on the glass 51-39.  Seward shot 39 percent and went 6-26 from three point range.  Seward was 26-36 at the foul line.  Hutch shot 41 percent and went 6-19 from three point land.  Hutchinson was 32-43 at the foul line.  Both teams committed 14 turnovers a piece.

Sierra Lynch scored 27 in her final game with SCCC.  Sydney Wetlaufer scored 14.  De’Shawnti Thomas had 12.

Seward finishes 22-10 and the Lady Dragons are 27-5.  Hutchinson faces Barton for the Region 6 title Saturday at 6.
