Lady Redskins Win Fifth WAC Title in Six Years

For the fifth time in six years, the Liberal Lady Redskins are WAC champions.  Liberal topped Garden City 50-42 Tuesday night in Garden City to improve to 7-0 in the WAC and clinch an outright WAC title with one game to go.

It was an odd game.  Liberal led 11-10 after one quarter before toying with the Lady Buffaloes in the second quarter outscoring them 19-2 to lead 30-12 at the half.   But Garden City outscored Liberal 18-5 in the third quarter to jump right back in the middle of the game.  It was 35-30 LHS after three.  Garden City got back to within six at 48-42 with :40 seconds left due to LHS turnovers.  But Liberal held on for the clinching win.

Liberal shot just 32 percent in the win.  Garden City shot 37 percent.  GCHS committed 21 turnovers and Liberal had 11.

Ashley Carrillo led Liberal with 21 points.  Bree Horyna added 13.  Rylie Hallman and Elle Hatcher had six rebounds a piece.

Liberal has won 15 of the past 16 against Garden City and improves to 14-5 overall and 7-0 in the WAC.  Garden City is 3-17 and finished 1-7 in the WAC.  Liberal plays at Dodge City Thursday night at 6 with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270, 92.3, and the KSCB and The Legend App.
