Lady Saint Defense Key to Victory Over Northwest Tech

Despite an off shooting night, the Seward Lady Saints rolled to a 20 point victory Saturday night on homecoming against the Northwest Tech Lady Mavericks.  Seward forced 28 turnovers and 31 percent shooting from Northwest Tech as SCCC gained a victory over a team which defeated Garden City on Wednesday.

This was a tight game throughout the first half.  It was 18-14 SCCC after one quarter.  Seward led 29-24 and 32-27 and built their biggest lead at the half at 36-29.

Seward out scored the Lady Mavericks 16-8 in the third quarter to lead 52-37 after three.  Seward built a lead by as many as  25 at 68-43.

Hulda Joaquim came off the bench for a double-double.  She had 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Zhane Thompson scored 11 and D’Arrah Allen had 12 points and six rebounds.  She was ejected from the game late for a what was called a flagrant foul.  De’Shawnti Thomas had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Seward is 19-8 overall and 15-6 in the Jayhawk.  Northwest Tech is 4-19 and 2-17 in the league.  Seward hosts Barton Monday night at 6 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:45 on 107.5 and the KSCB and The Legend App.  Community Bank is the game sponsor.
