Larry R. Wolfram

Larry R. Wolfram, age 71, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Friday, January 14, 2022, from advanced lung cancer and pneumonia. He fought valiantly through two bouts of cancer from 2009-2010 and 2017-2022 and was with his immediate family at the end. Even when the lung cancer returned in 2017, Larry continued to work and travel while taking treatments and was relatively healthy until this last year. His strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his loving and supportive family sustained him through it all.

Larry was born in McCook, Nebraska on June 23, 1950, to Henry Martin and Beatrice Vivian (McCoy) Wolfram. He spent his growing up years in NW Kansas with the majority in Decatur County.

He graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, Kansas in 1968. After high school graduation, he attended Kansas State University earning a degree in accounting in December 1972. Larry moved to Liberal, Kansas in June 1973 and was employed by Carlile Asphalt for 9 years followed by employment with J&R Sand from 1982-2021. Larry enjoyed his work and association with his co-workers and felt pride in helping grow the business into a successful mid-sized construction business.

On the 21st day of February 1976, Larry and Sandra Sue (Hewett) were united in marriage in Almena, Kansas. They bought a home together in Liberal, where they lived and raised their three children and called Liberal home all of their married life.

Larry was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church in Liberal, which is the current New Beginning Church. He taught Sunday school for various ages throughout the years and was active in Men’s Ministry as well. One of the highlights of his years of ministry was going on a mission trip to Hati in February 2015, with some of the men of the church. He spent countless hours reading and studying the Bible and preparing Bible lessons and used his gift and love for God’s Word to teach others.

During his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren in Kansas and Texas. In his last year of life, when he was limited by his health, he focused especially on praying for and encouraging his grandchildren, charging them all with learning God’s Word. “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11

Larry is survived by his wife Sandra, his three children, Kathryn and her husband Victor Uhner of Chanute, Kansas; Laura and her husband Jason Staab of Hays, Kansas; and Kyle and his wife Leah Wolfram of Houston, Texas, his 11 beloved grandchildren, and his sister, Connie and her husband, Curt Meixner of Ark City, Kansas. Sister-in-law, Evelyn Zellmer and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the New Beginnings Church, 2021 N. Western, Liberal, Kansas. Family will be present from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM to receive friends.

A Celebration of his life will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the New Beginnings Church, 2021 N. Western, Liberal, Kansas, with Pastor Kevin Alexander presiding.

Interment will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
