Robert J. (Jim) Conway, age 80, passed away Saturday evening, January 8, 2022, at the Locust Grove Villages, LaCrosse, Kansas.
He was born April 29, 1941, at Meade, Kansas, the son of Phillip Donald and Dorothy M. (Norsworthy) Conway. As a young boy he attended school in Meade, graduating from Meade High School in 1959. He later attended Bethany College, Bethany, Oklahoma. After his schooling, he returned to Meade and began his career as a cowboy, working at the Meade Feed Yard for 30 years. In addition to working as a cowboy, he worked for McPheter Pontiac-GMC for several years.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, 4-H, Glee Club, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Meade Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed being with his family and in particular, his grandchildren, team roping with his brother Gene, detailing his vehicles, and his favorite horse, Shorty.
In 1972, he married Shannon Ruth Turney at Beaver, Oklahoma. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Shane Bond and wife Miranda of LaCrosse, Kansas, Derek Conway and wife Crystal of Henderson, Nevada; a sister, Nancy Frank of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren, Justin, Nathan, Austin, Brayden, Carson, Nevaeh, and Skyla.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene Conway; and a sister, Louise Castleberry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the Church of the Nazarene. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
