Hustle Points Help Liberal Girls to WAC Opening Win

The Liberal girls basketball team won their WAC opener and final game before Christmas 62-39 Friday night in the Big House.  Liberal forced 32 turnovers in the win.

The Lady Red led 17-6 after one quarter.  Liberal’s lead ballooned to 22 at 29-7 after three consecutive steals led to six quick points.  LHS led 33-12 before a 5-0 Hays run made the halftime score 33-17 Lady Redskins.  LHS led 47-29 after three and led 58-37 early in the third.  Liberal’s biggest lead was at the final horn.

Liberal had an off shooting night at 42 percent from the field.  They came in averaging 50 percent shooting.  LHS was 9-33 from three point range and a dreadful 3-13 at the foul line.

Bree Horyna was the Epic Touch Player of the Game with 19 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Rylie Hallman had 12 points, six rebounds, and seven steals.  Hailey Contreras had 12 points.  Keyona Hall and Ashley Carrillo had eight a piece.

Liberal wins their eighth in a row against Hays and is 4-1 and 1-0 in the WAC.  Hays is 2-3 and 0-1.  Liberal plays at Hays January 7 at 6 with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270, 92.3, and the KSCB and The Legend app.
