Lady Saints Grind Out Win Over Cowley

The Seward County Lady Saints came to the Green House in Liberal Saturday night ready for a fight. After a disheartening loss at Garden City on Wednesday, Seward gained a rugged defensive oriented win over the Cowley Lady Tigers 69-57. Seward’s defense forced 30 Cowley turnovers and held Cowley’s guards in check.
Cowley led 14-13 after one quarter. The Lady Tigers led 22-15 in the second quarter before the Lady Saints rallied to lead 29-28 at the half. The Lady Saints built a 39-31 lead with 6:30 to play in the third quarter. SCCC led 46-39 after three. Seward led by as many as 16 at 59-43 before going on to win by 12.
Seward won despite shooting only 34 percent. Seward had an advantage at the free throw line by going 15-22 and Cowley was 5-12. Halima Salat scored 22 and was 6-10 from three point range. Zhane Thompson had 19. Sierra Lynch had 17 points and four steals.
Seward wins their ninth in a row against Cowley. Seward is 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the Jayhawk. Cowley is 7-5 and 3-4 in the Jayhawk. Seward plays at Northwest Tech Monday night at 6:30 central time with Saints Shoot-around at 6:15 on 107.5 and kscbnews.net.
