Wheat Stubble Catches Fire in Seward County

At 8:14pm on Tuesday, August 10th, the Seward County Fire Department was dispatched to a vegetation fire west of highway 51 and highway 83 junction. Units arrived on scene to find approximately 5 acres of wheat stubble burning with a moderate rate of spread. Forward progress was stopped and units worked several areas on containment and extinguishment. No injures or damage was reported. The cause of the fire was a mechanical failure of a wheel on a passing vehicle. The department responded with 2 chief officers, 2 engines, 2 water tenders, and 5 firefighters. Assisting was the Sheriff’s Office
