Liberal Girls Dominate Weather Shortened Game at Great Bend

Brock Kappelmann - April 7, 2021 6:23 am

The Liberal girls soccer team traveled to Great Bend and dominated the game in a 6-0 win.  The game was called due to a thunderstorm with 37:46 remaining.

Freshman Arely Molina opened up the scoring at the 14 minute mark with a left foot shot inside the 18 yard box.  Two minutes later, Molina found Valeria Gonzalez to make it 2-0.  At the 19 minute mark, Valeria Gonzalez found Ashley Carrillo on a break away to put Liberal up 3-0.  Three minutes later, senior Stefany Ortuno found Ashley Carrillo for her second one of the night to make it 4-0.  Carrillo had eight goals this season.  At the 29th minute mark, senior Jasmine Hernandez got one in after finishing a loose ball left inside the six yard box.  With 4:30 remaining in the first half, Valeria Gonzalez gets her second of the night to make it 6-0 by finishing a ball after a shot bounced off the crossbar.

Liberal led shots on goal 14-3 and corners 3-1.

Liberal is 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Hays Thursday evening at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex with the JV at 5 and the varsity at about 6:30.
