Donald Virgil Nash

Donald Virgil Nash, age 89, passed away late Thursday evening, March 18, 2021, at the Kansas Soldiers Home, in Fort Dodge, Kansas.

   Don was born November 14, 1931 at home in Stillwater, Oklahoma the son of William Ollie and Virgie Marie (Smith) Nash.  As a young boy Don attended school in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  When he was 15 the Nash family moved to Katy, Texas where Don attended high school. His Senior year Don won the Texas State Champion 120-yard-high hurdles with a time of 15 flat and also played football for the Katy Tigers.  He graduated in 1950.

   In 1951, Don joined the United States Navy, serving until 1955 in the Air Corps.  After his military service, he attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in business and marketing.  He worked for Federated Insurance company for twenty-two years.

  On June 3, 1956, Don married Bonita Fae Posl in Forgan, Oklahoma. They were married 25 years.  In 1998 he married Lawilda Jacobs.  She precedes him in death in 2017.

  He is survived by three sons, Craig Nash and wife Barbara of Belton, Texas, Gregg Nash of New Waverly, Texas, and Preston Nash and wife Lisa of Chandler Arizona; a sister Loretta Inez (Nash) Agee of Rockport, Texas; and 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

   He is preceded in death by two favorite men in his life Eddie Trew, October 22, 2020 and Wessie Agee, November 1, 2020.

   Don was a member of First Baptist Church in Plains, Kansas and was a former member of Elks and Optimist Clubs.  He served as a deacon and church bus driver at many churches over the years as well as caring for the elderly.  He was a good and faithful servant.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, all though he fed the deer instead of shooting them, woodworking, and spending treasured time with his family that he loved very much.

   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on March 23, 2021, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas.  Interment will follow in the Forgan Cemetery, Forgan, Oklahoma.

  The family would welcome memorials to the First Baptist Church of Plains, Kansas in care of the funeral home.
