Dodge City Ends Liberal’s Home Court Streak

March 3, 2017.  Bishop Carroll beat Liberal in a sub state final 40-30.  Liberal won 35 straight home games from that point leading into Thursday night’s home game with #4 Dodge City.  The Lady Demons played nearly flawlessly on their way to beating the Liberal Lady Redskins 60-43 Thursday night in the Big House.  The loss ended the 35 game home court winning streak.  Liberal had won 47 of the last 48 at home.

It was a defensive struggle in the first quarter as Dodge City led 9-3.  Liberal rallied in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14.  The Lady Demons answered by taking a 24-18 lead and led 24-20 at the half.  Liberal tied the game early in the third quarter 24-24.  Dodge City went on an 8-0 run to lead 32-24 and Liberal never recovered.  It was 36-28 at the end of three.  The Lady Demons out paced LHS 24-15 in the fourth quarter to win in a blowout.

Dodge City shot 56 percent from the field and 68 percent in the second half.  Liberal shot 39.5 percent and made just 4-17 three pointers.  Bree Horyna had 12 points and five rebounds in the loss.  Ashley Carrillo had 11 and Aubrey Warden added 10.  Dodge City’s Kisa Unruh scored 23 on 8-10 shooting.

Liberal is 16-4 and finishes 5-3 in the WAC.  Dodge City is 18-1 and finishes 8-0 in the WAC.  It was Dodge City’s first win at Liberal since 2016 and first season sweep since 2016.  Liberal hosts Garden City Wednesday night at 7 with Redskin Pre-game at 6:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
