Helen Elaine Woodruff, age 95, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 3, 2012, at the Fowler Residential Care Center, Fowler, Kansas.

She was born April 10, 1925, at Gate, Oklahoma, the daughter of Odis and Vinn (Williams) Rather.  As a young girl, she attended school in Gate, graduating from Gate High School.  She later attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.  After her schooling, she began teaching at Balko, Oklahoma, and later at the Sunnydale Elementary School in rural Meade County, Kansas.

On May 29, 1946, she married Joe G. Woodruff at Dodge City, Kansas.  After their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Meade County.  She later began working for the Meade District Hospital, retiring as the supply nurse after many years.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, Meade.  She enjoyed farming, collecting items, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Otis Woodruff of rural Meade; a grandson, Bronc Woodruff and wife Tisha; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlie and Zoie.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe on May 5, 2011; her parents; and a daughter, Marilyn Faye Woodruff.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
