Saints Come Alive Late in Win Over Cowley

The Seward County Saints improved to 1-1 in the Jayhawk West with an 81-77 win over the high flying Cowley Tigers Saturday afternoon in the Green House.  The Saints erased a 13 point second half deficit for the win.

The Saints jumped on the visiting Tigers early to lead 14-7, 20-14, and 29-21.  The Saints took a 40-34 lead into the halftime locker room.  Cowley controlled the opening 10 minutes of the second half.  Cowley took a lead of 45-44.  That lead ballooned to 50-44, 54-46, and 57-48.  The Tigers took a 63-50 lead and would later lead 67-54 about midway through the second half.  Seward slowly but surely began getting some stops and saw their offense perk up cutting the Cowley lead to 69-64 with 6:28 to play.  Seward cut the lead to one with 2:26 to play on an Erik Pratt right wing three.  A Pratt shot in the lane gave the Saints a 76-74 lead with :57.5 to play.  Seward took a 78-74 with 42 second left before the Tigers cut the lead to 78-77.  Seward took an 80-77 lead with 18 seconds left.

The Saints shot 50 percent from the field but committed 26 turnovers.  Cowley shot 24 percent and committed 24 turnovers.  Saints were 5-11 from three and the Tigers were 9-28.  Seward made 24-36 foul shots and Cowley was 22-27.

Kevon Cooper broke through with a 20 point game and seven rebounds.  Pratt and Sam Henderson had 16 a piece.  Davonte Jennings and Stephen Takyi had 10 a piece.

Seward is 1-1 and Cowley is 1-1 in the Jayhawk.  Seward plays at Coffeyville Saturday at 4 on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
