Ethel LaVada Hetzel

Ethel LaVada Hetzel, age 89, went to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

 

She was born at home in LaCrosse, Kansas on February 19, 1931 to Ira and Flossie (Tullis) Mullen in LaCrosse, Kansas. 

 

Ethel graduated LaCrosse High School in May 1949. After graduation Ethel attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas.

 

Ethel was a secretary for Rush County Farm Bureau Office and Western Light and Telephone in Great Bend, Kansas. After the passing of her father, Ethel returned to LaCrosse and worked for Humberg Hardware and Gas Company as a bookkeeper.

 

Ethel was united in marriage to Norman Harley Hetzel on November 15, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in LaCrosse, Kansas. To this 

union two daughters were born Melinda and Sonya.

Ethel was active in serving several committees and served as a church delegate to Annual Conference for six years. She was a member of the Women Service of Christian Service, President of BPW, Life Member of Women’s Auxiliary. 

 

Ethel worked at the Greeley County Library. Then becoming head Librarian and retiring in September 1993.

 

Ethel enjoyed gardening and her numerous flowers.

 

Ethel and Norman enjoyed taking trips after retirement including traveling to Europe.

 

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman September 4, 2019, a granddaughter and grandson. 

 

She is survived by her daughters, Melinda and husband Michael Haist, Sonya and husband, Dr. Curtis Miller. Granddaughter McKenzie. Grandsons, Justin Haist, Logan and Blake Miller. 

 

Memorials suggested to United Methodist Church of Tribune, Kansas.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (MST) on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901 also from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (MST) on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 followed by Funeral Services at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Tribune, Kansas with interment to follow at the Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, Kansas.

For those attending the services the family has requested that social distancing guidelines be followed and request that all attending wear a mask. This is for safety and the best interest everyone’s health; we will use social media to offer condolences and support to the family in lieu of attending. Per family wishes the service will be available on face book live.
