Joe Denoyer - December 7, 2020 4:39 pm

Marie Frances Winger, age 85, of Johnson, Kansas, died Sunday, December 6, 2020, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born August 1, 1935, in Johnson, Kansas, the daughter of James LeRoy and Mary Frances (Wallace) Collings.

Marie moved with her family to Neohso, Missouri, at the age of three. When she was a teenager they moved back to Johnson and she graduated from Stanton County High School. While in high school, she met Richard Winger and they married on June 6, 1954, in Johnson. Marie and Dick moved to the family homestead in 1960. They added a room onto the house where she gave art lessons, which included toll painting and wheat weaving. She would sell her crafts at craft fairs and also on consignment. Marie worked along side of Dick doing the farm work and helping during harvest. She spent many hours driving the tractor and during milo harvest she drove truck and would do crafts waiting for her next load. Marie and Dick instilled in their children a good work ethic, common sense, honesty, accepting responsibility for their actions, and placing others before themselves. Marie helped her children with their 4-H projects and also served as a Girl Scout Leader. In 1988, Marie and Dick moved to town. She was the Deputy County Clerk for years. She loved to work in her yard and her flower gardens were a showpiece. She and Dick owned and operated Beez Wings, a bed and breakfast, for many years. She found joy in decorating each room for the holidays. Marie was a member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church. She and Dick taught Sunday school, and she would share her personal stories before they would sing duets together during Sunday morning church.

She is survived by sons, Jeff Winger and wife Anita of Starkville, Mississippi, and Mark Winger and wife Tonya of Colby; daughters, Melodie Casey and husband Don of Johnson, Kim Tucker and husband Paul of Johnson, and Susan Johnson and husband Mike of Garden City; 19 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard; and son, Stacey Winger.
