Skins Save their Best for Last in Overtime Win

Liberal won their third straight opener Friday night.  The Redskins rallied past the Colby Eagles 49-47 in the Colby Community Building.

Liberal came out ready to play in coach Trace Haskell’s first game as head coach.  The Skins vaulted to a 10-4 advantage.  The Eagles used a 15-4 run to lead 19-14 at the half.  The Redskins cut the lead to one at 26-25 and 28-27.  Colby led 30-27 at the end of three.  AJ Ramirez tied the game at 40-40.  The Redskins had the ball and put up three shots with a chance to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation.  Malcolm Wiltshire’s lay up gave the Redskins a 43-42 lead with 2:42 to play in overtime.  Alex Lopez buried two free throws to make it 45-42.  AJ Ramirez jump hook gave LHS a 48-45 lead.

The Redskins won the game despite going 7-15 at the foul line while Colby was 8-11.

Embry Williams scored a career high 15 points and was the Epic Touch Player of the Game.  AJ Ramirez and Alex Lopez added nine a piece.

Liberal plays at Holcomb Tuesday at about 7:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
