City of Guymon Breaks Ground on New Soccer Complex

Joe Denoyer - May 26, 2020 10:54 pm

The City of Guymon broke ground Tuesday on a new soccer complex to be built. Currently, the Guymon High School team host games at the high school football field. Various soccer teams hold practices on old tennis courts. Guymon city leaders said a new soccer complex was badly needed.

The site for the soccer complex is 17 acres of land donated from the Nash Foundation to the city. The land is in between Prairie Elementary and grain elevators along State Highway 3 also known as Road 412.

Funding for the project came from The Nash Foundation who has kicked in $750,000 for the project. The City of Guymon also secured grants, donations and fundraising to help complete the project. Once a new soccer complex is built and the fields are ready to be played on, the city and soccer club teams are looking to host tournaments.

The soccer complex could be open for play sometime in 2021.
