LIBERAL, KS. (Apr. 9, 2020) – Xpress Wellness Urgent Care, has been made aware of a press release issued to social media from Seward County containing misleading information about the reporting of a positive Covid-19 test from our clinic in Liberal, Kansas.

We would like to provide information regarding how the positive case was reported and show that proper protocol according to Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) was appropriately and accurately followed.

Seward County Health Department’s webpage for Communicable Disease and Surveillance points medical practitioners to a form which should be submitted to KDHE. In addition, Xpress Wellness Urgent Care adhered to KDHE’s Kansas Administrative Regulation (KAR) 28-1-2 whereby infectious and contagious diseases must be reported within 4 hours. Xpress Wellness reported the positive test to KDHE within 30 minutes.

In an abundance of caution, Xpress has been in contact with the state Epidemiologist for Kansas who confirms our organization has been and continues to be in compliance with reporting regulations. Though not required, in the future, we will report any positive Covid-19 test to Seward county as a courtesy.

In this pandemic the entire nation is facing, our medical professionals at Xpress come to work every day prepared to risk their own health to care for the Liberal and surrounding communities and we consider that a privilege. We feel fortunate that we have Coronavirus testing kits readily available to diagnose patients and look forward to continued service to the community
