Liberal High School Head Girls Basketball coach Carter Kruger has resigned as the head girls basketball coach
following the team’s undefeated, 23-0, 2019-20 season. He remains assistant activities director at LHS.  Coach Kruger came to LHS in 2015 after spending six years
in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. The girls basketball program has become a perennial
contender for WAC titles and state tournament berths, winning four straight WAC crowns and finishing their last rd
three seasons at state with a 3 place finish, quarterfinal appearance, and a final four appearance this year at the 6A state tournament.
“It has been a great honor to represent Liberal High School and our community as the girls basketball coach. I will forever appreciate the opportunity to work with a first-class coaching staff, administration, parents, and players. It’s hard to give up something you’ve devoted a huge part of your life to, but it’s the right time for me to step away and pursue other goals personally and professionally. Our program is in a position to remain extremely competitive in the coming years. I will miss the game and the work involved, but most of all I will miss coaching the girls and watching a group of individuals develop into a team. I thank all the players and coaches I’ve worked with and will always root on our Redskins,” says Carter Kruger
“Liberal High School would like to thank Coach Kruger for all he has done for the Liberal girls basketball, USD 480, and the Liberal community. He will leave a legacy at Liberal High School that will be remembered forever,” Nathan Smith, Liberal Athletic Director says. “Carter’s commitment to students’ success not only on the court but in the classroom is unmatched, and we are excited to see what the future holds him.”
Kruger finishes with a career record of 96-18. Kruger remains in his position as assistant activities director at LHS.  Liberal returns an experienced team with two starters and several varsity contributors coming back plus highly successful sub-varsity groups for next winter.
