Redskins Hold Down Hooker

The Liberal Redskins may have gained their most impressive win of the young season Friday night in Hooker. In front of a big crowd, the Redskins overcame a decisive size disadvantage to beat Hooker 46-40.
The Bulldogs, ranked #8 in 2A, led 14-13 after one quarter. The Bulldogs led 22-20 at halftime. The Redskins used a stifling trapping defense and held Hooker down in the second half. LHS led 30-26, 33-28, and 35-31 after three. The Redskins led 42-36 in the fourth quarter and 45-38 with 1:15 to play.
The Skins held Hooker to 36 percent shooting while the Angry Red shot 38 percent. The Skins made 6-17 three pointers while Hooker was 2-11 from three point range. Lee Hatcher had 11 points and five rebounds. Alex Lopez added 11. LHS held Hooker’s Jerod Kerr to 10. Kerr averages about 20 a game.
The Redskins are 4-2 and Hooker is 7-1. It was the first matchup between the two teams in boys basketball since playing in Beaver in 1998. It was the first meeting in Hooker’s gym constructed in 1996. The Redskins host Gruver Tuesday night at 7:30 on 1270 and kscbnews.net. The Bulldogs play at Turpin on Tuesday.
