Council Bluffs Iowa – Seward County Community College handing New Mexico Military Institute its first loss of the season with a 3-0 match sweep.
The No. 3 Lady Saints faced off against No. 4 New Mexico Military Institute for their only game on Saturday October 12th in Council Bluffs Iowa. This is the second time that the Lady Saints would face off against a top five team in the nation.
The first set the Lady Saints would jump up to a 3-0 lead and would keep the momentum jumping up to a 17-7 lead. The Broncos would not have an answer for the Lady Saints in the first set. They would go on to win the first set 25-15.
Second set would start off in the Lady Saints favor going up 7-2 early but the Bronco’s would respond with an 11-5 run to take the lead 13-12. After a timeout by coach Trifonov the Lady Saints would retake the lead and hold on to it winning 25-20.
Leading two sets to zero the Lady Saints had the Broncos on the brink of defeat for the first time this season. Once again, the Lady Saints would take an early 9-5 set lead. This time the Lady Saints would continue their run to lead 15-8. This would turn out to be the final set as the Lady Saints would win 25-15 to improve to 20-2 on the season.
A big weekend for the Lady Saints as they leave Council Bluffs with a 3-0 weekend and two top 5 wins. The Lady Saints will be back in action Wednesday October 16th at Dodge City Community College at 6:30PM CT.
Council Bluffs Iowa– The first day at the Dennis South Memorial Classic in Council Bluffs Iowa, Seward County Community College wins both matches in sweeping fashion. Defeating Mineral Area College and the host team No.7 Iowa Western Community College to improve to 19-2 on the season.
They will now face off against undefeated No. 4 New Mexico Military College tomorrow at 12pm central time for the final match of the weekend.
The Lady Saints opened up the day with a 25-6, 25-15, and 25-13 victory over Mineral Area College. They would start off the first set leading 9-3 and would win the next 11 of 12 points to lead 20-6. They would win the next five points to in 25-6. From then on they would not lose a point in the first set. Being the aggressors early in the match paid off early for the Lady Saints and continued throughout the rest of the match.
In the second set the Lady Saints would get a lead of 12-4 and proceed to pile it on. With remarkable serving the Lady Saints were comfortable as if they were in Liberal, jumping up to a 20-10 lead and later win the set 25-15.
The third set the Lady Saints would trail early 4-5 but this would be the last time they would trail for the rest of the match. Winning the next 9 points they would take another dominate set lead at 13-4. Concluding the third and final set 25-13 and getting their first win of the weekend under their belt.

Yanlis Feliz had a team high 12 kills with 2 errors on 20 attempts for a hitting percentage of .500. Sophomore
Djuly Schmorantz would add 11 kills on 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .611. The Setter
Laura De Pra had 36 assists, 6 digs and a season high 4 block assists.
The last game of the evening would feature a top 10 match up with the Lady Saints taking on No. 7 Iowa Western. The Reivers would come out to a 1-5 advantage over the Lady Saints but this would be the largest deficit the Lady Saints would face in the rest of the match. This set would see 8 scoring ties and the Lady Saints would battle back down 21-23 to win the last 4 points.
Set two the Lady Saints would come out swinging and take a 15-9 lead over Iowa Western. The Reivers would battle back to have it tied at 18 but the Lady Saints pulled away late to take the second set.
With a two set lead the Lady Saints quiet the crowd on hand but not for long as Iowa Western jumped up early in the third set 6-9. Lady Saints would take a 19-18 lead and keep the lead for the rest of the match, winning 6 of the last 9 points.
Feliz lead the Lady Saints in kills for the match with 19 kills, 7 errors and 36 kills. Schmorantz would have 13 kills, 6 errors on 32 attempts in the match.
Laura De Pra had 43 assists, and 1 ace to end the day.
No. 3 Lady Saints get their 19th win on the season and thier second win against a top 10 opponent. They will face undefeated No. 4 New Mexico Military Institute tomorrow at 12pm CT to finish off the weekend.
