Seward’s Izurieta Signs at UT Rio Grande Valley

LIBERAL, Kan. — Seward County Community College tennis player Carlo Izurieta has signed with Division I University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley.
Izurieta started his Saint career in strong fashion, winning two Region VI titles at No. 5 Singles and No. 3 Doubles as a freshman. In the 2018 National Tournament, he finished runner-up to become an NJCAA Doubles All-American. Izurieta finished the season at 24-7 in singles and 21-5 in doubles.
As a sophomore, Izurieta continued his success, earning championships in the Region VI Singles and Doubles at the No. 3 spot. Izurieta placed third in the 2019 NJCAA National Tournament at the No. 3 singles spot. Izurieta ended his career as a Saint with 76 total wins, posting records of 39-9 in singles and 37-9 in doubles.
Izurieta will join a Vaquero team with a history of winning, which includes 13 Western Athletic Conference Championships. UTA-Rio Grande Valley finished last season at 4-20 and look to get back on the winning track with the help of Izurieta.
