Commissioners from both the City of Liberal and Seward County met last night in a joint meeting at 5:00pm at the Seward County Administration Building. The lone agenda item was establishing a Joint Economic Development Committee. The commissions had previously met on this issue and had decided on an executive board of the JEDC to consist of 6 members, with three being selected by each governing body. Since that initial meeting, proposed changes to that make up were discussed, and it was decided to get back together as a group and discuss the proposed changes. After brief discussion it was decided to add a 7th member to the JEDC and that member would be appointed by the Chamber of Commerce. City Commissioners adopted the resolution establishing a new Joint Economic Development Committee, while the Seward County Commissioners amended their agenda for their meeting so they could adopt the resolution as well. Applications for JEDC will be available at City Hall, Seward County Administration Building, and the Chamber of Commerce.
