Seward pitcher and Liberal native Cole Evans will be a division one pitcher. The 6’5″ 245 pound right handed pitcher used Twitter to announce his verbal commitment to Arkansas-Little Rock. Evans made the following statement his social media platform.
“The last 2 years at Seward County have been the most important to my baseball career. No words could ever describe my time here. I want to thank coach Davidson, coach McSpadden, coach King, and coach Pulley for not only giving me an opportunity, but for pushing me to my potential. I would also like to thank my family for the unending support and the miles driven just to watch me play. Most importantly, I want to than the good Lord for allowing me to overcome injury, fight through adversity, and learn the skills it takes to play at a higher level. With that being said, I would like to announce that I am committing to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Can’t wait to play in the Sun Belt conference against some old teammates. GO TROJANS!”
Evans is 2-2 with a 4.63 ERA to go with 70 strikeouts and 26 walks in his sophomore season. Last year Evans was 7-2 with two saves and a 6.16 ERA with 73 k’s and 31 walks. Evans and the Saints play at Fort Scott Thursday and Friday at 1 with an if necessary game Saturday afternoon. The games air on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
Evans also becomes the first LHS baseball division 1 player since Josh McSpadden played at Texas-Arlington in 2004-05.
Evans earned three letters playing under Eric Olmstead at Liberal High School. He pitched 33 innings with a 1.24 ERA and 58 strikeouts. Evans batted .468 with 29 RBI’s and 5 homeruns and was the WAC MVP. He was all WAC, all state, and the LHS all-time RBI (80) and home run (10) leader. Evans also earned three letters in basketball and was a top 10 all-time leading rebounder. Evans was the LHS Male Athlete of the Year.
