Redskins Baseball Splits Saturday with Kansas City Teams

The Liberal Redskins baseball team continued their three game trip in the Kansas City area on Saturday with two games against private schools from Kansas City. The Skins began the day with a 17-7 win over Kansas City Christian before a 9-2 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. The games were played at Benedictine College in Atchison.
The Redskins bats came alive in the game vs. Kansas City Christian which began at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Kansas City Christian scored in five of the seven innings and LHS scored in all but one inning. LHS trailed 2-1 in the first but scored two in the second and four in the third and led 7-2 in the middle of the third before leading 7-3 after three. Both teams scored two in the fourth to make it 9-5. The Skins used a five run fifth to blow the game open. Elijah McCarter was 4-4 while Braxton Hyde and Shay Kerr were both 3-4. Ulises Rivera pitched three scoreless innings in relief of starter James Armstrong. Liberal out-hit Kansas City Christian 12-7.
Aquinas jumped on Liberal early in game two. The Saints scored one in the first, one in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Liberal scored both runs in the seventh of the 9-2 loss. The Saints out hit the Redskins 12-4.
Liberal is 11-8 and plays Tuesday at Dodge City at 6 to wrap up the regular season. The game airs on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
