Lady Red Makes Statement in Hays

These are supposed to be the top two girls basketball teams in the Western Athletic Conference.  If that is true, there is quite a gap between number one and two in the WAC.  After losing a Hays a season ago, the #2 Liberal Lady Redskins traipsed into Hays and won 55-34 on homecoming in a game Liberal led by 30 and used a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Liberal’s defense was even more stifling than usual.  The Lady Redskins led 17-2 after one and led 19-2 before leading 28-10 at halftime.  LHS led 41-15 and 45-19 before a lead of 48-19.  LHS led 53-23 in the fourth quarter when the game began using the running clock.

Whitney Hay nailed three more three pointers and scored 13 points in the win.  Katie Horyna and Machia Mullens had 12 a piece.  Aubrey Warden and Reagan Watt had eight a piece.

Liberal has won three of the last four at Hays and is 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the WAC.  Hays is 11-5 and 4-2 in the WAC.  The Lady Redskins host Dodge City (7-8, 2-1) Saturday afternoon in the Big House with tip off at 4 and Redskin Pre-game at 3:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
