Redskins Win Opener Over Holcomb

For just the third time since the teams started playing their opening game in 2010-11, the Liberal Redskins have won their opening game against the mighty Longhorns. The Redskins rallied past #5 class 3A Holcomb 64-55 Friday night in the Big House.
The Horns jumped out to a 21-12 lead as Holcomb made six of their first nine three pointers. The Redskins used a 10-0 run to lead 22-21. Holcomb led 29-26 at halftime. The Redskins took a 44-40 lead after three and led by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter at 59-47 and 61-49.
Lee Hatcher scored 18 while Jordan Mendoza had 15 and Hunter Hatcher dropped in 10. Israel Avalos scored eight. Liberal made 54 percent of their shots and 15-21 from the foul line. They were 7-20 from three point range.
The 1-0 Redskins play at Guymon Tuesday at about 8 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
