Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Friday that the

corn production in the state is forecast at a record high 581

million bushels.

And the state’s growers are also on track to set a record for

soybean production. About 140 million bushels are expected after

farmers planted an unprecedented number of acres this season.

Also faring extremely well is sorghum. Its forecast production

of 221.4 million bushels would not set any records, but the

expected yields for that crop of 82 bushels per acre would set a

yield record.

The bounty extends beyond Kansas. Corn production nationwide is

forecast at 13 billion bushels. If realized, it would be the second

largest corn crop in U.S. history.
