Bee Jays Take Ugly League Opener

Brock Kappelmann - June 6, 2018 6:42 am

It’s in the win column so the Liberal Bee Jays will take it. On a hot sticky night in Haysville, the boys in blue began their Jayhawk League tour with 13 strikeouts, three errors, and the pitching staff walked 10. But Clint Allen was 4-4, BJ pitchers missed a lot of bats, and the Bee Jays won 6-4 in Haysville’s Vulcan Field Tuesday night.

Liberal scored in the first when Allen ripped a triple to right center. Dylan Paul drove him home with a ground out. Chase Hacker launched a towering homer to left in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. Meanwhile Payton Bauer did not allow a hit until the sixth. But in the sixth, he allowed two runs as the Aviators tied the game. Bauer worked five innings in a no decision but certainly gave the BJ’s a quality start. Liberal regained the lead in the sixth when Allen doubled to right center to score Jonathan Tapia from first. Paul doubled to left center to score Allen. The Aviators gift wrapped the next two runs after a dropped third strike prolonged the inning and the BJ’s scoredctwo on an error at short. The Bee Jay bullpen sputtered waking seven. But Christian Isenhour worked three scoreless innings and Anders Davidson walked three and allowed two in the ninth but was able to record the 27th out for the win. Liberal held Haysville to four hits.

The same two teams continue their series tonight at 7 in Haysville. The game will air on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Pregame at 6:45.
