Southwestern Heights defeated Liberal 3-2 last night in front of a near capacity crowd at Heights. Heights won (20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13). Lady Mustang coach Julie Tucker says it was a thrilling win. “It was very exciting,” Tucker said. “It felt like state type competition there at the end. At different times of the match, it was lackluster. We made a lot of errors. I was really just proud of the girls for pulling it out at the end because we made a couple of hitting errors and got down a little bit.”
Tucker says the turning point may have been a save which gave the Mustangs a 14-13 lead in game five. “We had that awesome save started by Kathy Eakes and then Lindsay Garringer got a hand on it. I think that kind of turned it around for us in a nick of time. It could have gone either way easily.”
Liberal plays at Garden City Thursday against Holcomb at 4:00 PM, Great Bend at 5:00 PM, and Garden City at 7:00 PM.
