Saints Collapse in Colby

Brock Kappelmann - March 18, 2018 10:00 am

Seward’s baseball team struggled in every facet of the game Saturday afternoon in Colby.  The Trojans feasted on the Saints 7-0 in game one and 11-1 in a seven inning run rule in game two.  After winning the first game of the series 15-8 Thursday in Liberal, the Saints were out scored 30-2 in the final three games.

In game one, the Trojans scored four runs on four hits and three errors in the first.  Colby added two in the second, and one in the third.  Starter Ryan Thomas settled down and tossed three scoreless innings after that.  Seward committed five errors in the loss and had only three hits.  The Trojans had nine hits and no errors on their home field.

In similar fashion, Colby scored four runs on three hits and two SCCC errors in game two.  The Trojans added four in the second and single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth.  Jacob Nielson pitched two and 1/3 innings allowing just one run.  Benny Ayala hit a towering homer to left in the fourth for Seward’s only run.  The Saints actually out hit the Trojans 8-7 but had four errors while the Trojans played spotless defensive baseball.  Saints pitching walked seven and beaned two while Colby pitching walked one and beaned one.

Seward is 15-12 overall and 3-5 in the Jayhawk West while Colby is 15-9 and 9-3.  Seward hosts Clarendon Tuesday at 2 at Brent Gould Field.  The Saints travel to Cloud on Thursday.
