Cowley Clips Saints Late

The suddenly sinking Saints played their brand of basketball last night in Ark City. They defended much better than they did Wednesday at Pratt. And scored in the paint better than they have in a while. But it still wasn’t enough as the Cowley Tigers defeated the Saints 74-69 in Scott Auditorium Saturday night.
Cowley led 30-28 at halftime. The Saints raced back to lead 47-43 and 56-52 in the second half. SCCC led 59-57 before two straight Cowley 3’s and a floater that beat the shot clock buzzer gave Cowley a lead they would not relinquish in the closing minutes.
Isiah Small scored 22 in the loss. Mo Selmi had 11. The Saints held Cowley to 38 percent shooting from the field and 5-26 from three point range after the Tigers netted 18-32 three pointers in their upset win at Barton Wednesday. Seward made 42 percent of their shots and were 2-6 from 3 without Terrell Alfred.
Seward has lost three straight and five of their last seven. They are 13-10 overall and 9-10 in the Jayhawk. Cowley is 15-8 and 12-7 in the Jayhawk. Seward hosts Coffeyville Wednesday night at 8 in the Green House. An anonymous donor is the game sponsor and tickets are available at Pizza Hut, Old Chicago, Chrysler Corner, First National Bank, the Community Bank, and Freddy’s. The game airs on 107.5 and kscbnews.net.
