Liberal Girls Sizzle in the Second

The #5 Liberal Lady Redskins defeated the Hugoton Lady Eagles 58-44 Friday night in the Big House.  The Lady Red broke away late as this game was close throughout.

Hugoton, making their first appearance in the Big House since 1999, jumped out to a 6-0 lead on Liberal.  The Lady Skins committed 11 first half turnovers and the Lady Eagles led 21-19 at halftime.  Liberal wasted no time in the second half jumping out to a 14-2 run and leading 33-23.  LHS led 36-25 before it was 36-29 after three.  LHS made their free throws to pull away late.  LHS was 17-18 from the foul line.

For the first time this season, the Lady Redskins had four players score in double figures.  Machia Mullens shrugged off foul trouble with 14 points, most of which came in the fourth quarter.  Katie Horyna scored 13.  Audrey Gilmore had 11 and Ali Lucero added 10.  For Hugoton, Jordyn Beard had 13 and JoHanna Rawlins had 11.

Liberal is 12-1 for the first time since 2009.  Hugoton is 6-6.  Liberal plays host the Great Bend Friday at 6 in the Big House with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.  Hugoton plays at Holcomb on Tuesday.
