Burns Named KDOT Ulysses Highway Maintenance Supervisor

KDOT has named Frankie Burns of Lakin as the new Ulysses Highway Maintenance Supervisor.  Burns has been with KDOT since February of 2007 when he was hired as an Equipment Operator Trainee in Lakin.  He was promoted to Equipment Operator later that year and served as the Area Highway Maintenance Supervisor in Ulysses in 2012 before transferring to Garden City as the Highway Maintenance Supervisor.

During his time with KDOT, he and his team were awarded the Example of Excellence award for their work paving the local DMV yard so that it could be used year-round for CDL training.  With almost eleven years of experience with KDOT, Burns has many memorable moments, but says this year has been especially memorable.  During the April blizzard, he stopped to assist a car stranded in the ditch only to find several teenage girls in t-shirts and shorts trying to make their way from Garden City to Deerfield to see a friend.  After calling the KHP to transport the girls to Deerfield, Frankie waited with the girls until the KHP arrived.  Later this year, Burns was assisting with traffic control following an anhydrous ammonia leak on the bypass when his KDOT truck was totaled by a driver that crashed into it at full speed.  Fortunately, Burns was not in the truck at the time and escaped without injury.

Burns has three children, Tyler (Hays), Frankie Jr. (Lakin), and Shae and wife Jenessa (Lakin) and two granddaughters, Brekalyen and Paisley  both  of Lakin.  In his spare time Burns enjoy woodworking, working in his shop, restoring his 1959 Ford pickup and especially loves his Harley.
