New Faces Dot Hugoton’s Lineup
Brock Kappelmann - August 26, 2017 7:19 am
Hugoton will have new faces throughout their lineup this season. After going 5-4 last year and 5-5 the season before that the Eagles have gotten younger. They have only 12 lettermen back. There are two starters returning and seven starters back on defense. Fourth year head coach Todd Fulton says linemen are at a premium. He is still working on filling positions with the right kids after losing 15 seniors from last year, many of whom were multi year starters. They have a a new offensive backfield and only have one starter back on the offensive line. Fulton says he will adapt the offensive scheme to his team’s skill set. On defense, Jay Witt brings over 30 years experience to that side of the ball.
Some of the key Eagles are Sr. WR/DB Dawon Burnett, Sr. QB/LB Manny Mendoza, Sr. RB/LB Marcos Baeza, Sr. RB/DB Mitchell Hamlin, Sr. RB/DE Nick Gold, Jr. RB/LB Dawson Kerbow, Jr. OL/DL Peter Loewen, Jr. OL/DE Jeff Persinger, and Sr. WR/DB Bradan Slemp. The schedule will be challenging with four of their five GWAC opponents receiving pre-season attention in some rankings. The Eagles were featured during Sportsguys Friday morning.
