The Liberal girls soccer team continues to play great ball.  After beating Garden City and tying Dodge City last week, LHS opened the 5A playoffs with a 2-0 win over Goddard at Goddard District Stadium Monday evening.

Liberal played against the strong south wind in the first half but still scored.  Sophomore Kim Alarcon opened up the scoring 14 minutes in.  Kayla Gokey assisted on the play.  They combined ona couple of wall passed leaving Alarcon one on one with the Goddard goalie.  Alarcon blasted the ball past her with a right foot shot.

Two minutes later is was Kayla Gokey’s turn as Kim Alarcon returned the favor and assisted on a very similar play.  Gokey sped past the goalie as she came out to try and make a play.  Kayla stepped over leaving her behind for the tap in finish.

LHS head coach Carlos Ruiz liked the way is team fought.

“Our girls played well but most importantly competed hard for 80 minutes,” Ruiz said.  ” We out hustled our opponent, imposed our will and athleticism.  This group was determined tonight.”

Liberal has reached eight wins and won a playoff game for the first time in program history.  Thursday the girls play the number one team in the state Bishop Carroll in Wichita.
