LHS Plays Well at Willow Tree

It was quite a day for golf at Willow Tree in Liberal. The WAC schools showed up in force and 45 golfers took to the links to see who was the best in the league. Conditions were ideal and the scores reflect that with four golfers shooting under par on the day. Hays’ Tradjon McCrae and Allen Zollinger both shot 71 but placed 3rd and 4th. Garden City’s Logan Durst shot a great 4 under at 68, but even he couldn’t compete with the champion Taylor Larsen of Garden City who shot 66, six under par. Taylor also clenched the WAC Player of the Year with today’s victory.
Top placer for Liberal was Cameron Riley who shot a respectable 74, but today that only earned 8th place. Just out of medal contention was Alex Carrasco who shot 76. He was followed by Dylan Shellenberger at 82 and Tracey Hill and Sean Titus at 86. The Liberal boys posted their best team score of the year at 318, but it was still not enough to beat Hays who won the tournament at 291. As league play ends, the focus now shifts to Regionals. The boys head to Auburn Hills on Monday to compete in one of four 5A State Qualifying Tournaments.
