Lady Saints Win 40th in Playoff Romp

May 05, 2017
The Seward County Lady Saints picked up their 40th win of the season Friday afternoon in El Dorado at the Region VI Tournament, blanking Garden City 8-0 to advance to Saturday’s first semifinal round where they will take on the Barton Cougars at 1:00 at East Park.
Things started about as well as they could for Seward on Friday as Monique Ashley punched out the first two hitters she saw in the top half of the 1st and Jordan Garrison lifted off on a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to put the Lady Saints up early 1-0.
Seward loaded the bases and took advantage of a Garden City error to score a run in the 2nd to make it a 2-0 game and blew things open in the 4th as Sydney Epp doubled home two and Jullian Atteberry crushed a three run home run to make it an 8-0 game.
Ashley did the rest, striking out two more in a scoreless 5th to quickly call in the run rule as the Lady Saints took the win 8-0.
Ashley allowed just one hit in the shutout win while striking out nine to improve to 24-5 on the year. Seward finished with six hits, getting two hits and two RBI’s each from Garrison and Epp in the victory.
The Lady Saints improve to 40-20 on the year, winning their 40th game for the seventh time in school history, while Garden City falls back to 16-35 on the year.
Seward advances to the first semifinal round of the tournament where they will take on the Barton Cougars Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in El Dorado.
