Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad workers found an unidentified body four miles west of Syracuse, Kan. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 1:23 p.m. and they immediately alerted the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to assist the department at the scene.
The body was so severely decomposed, neither the cause of death, age, race nor the gender of the body was identifiable at the scene. No time of death could be determined without further lab analysis. The body has been sent to the state crime laboratory for autopsy.
“We will not know anything regarding the deceased until the autopsy results are finalized,” Sheriff Mike Wilson said. “At this time, there is no indication this person is from Hamilton County, as there have been no reports of missing persons in our area.”
