Redskins Get Redemption in WAC Clinching Win

They are having an incredible season. But still something was missing. After a shocking January 10 loss at home to Garden City, Liberal atoned for that loss with a 65-58 win at the Garden on Tuesday night. The Redskins are 6-1 in the WAC while Hays is 5-2 so the Skins clinch at least a share of the WAC title for a second straight season.
Buoyed by their three point shooting and defense, LHS jumped ahead 17-8 after one quarter and 25-10 in the second. Markalyn Eatmon made three first half three’s to help build the lead. The Redskins led 29-19 at the half. The Skins led 40-25 with 2:17 to play in the third and led 42-30 after three. LHS led 47-32 and 57-42. The Skins won by seven in a game which was rarely that close. Liberal’s defense did a great job on Garden City’s leading scorer Garret Doll who scored eight but had 19 in the game at Liberal. The Redskins made 30-35 free throws in the win. LHS shot 52 percent from the field while going 5-9 from three point range.
For the second straight year, Garden City and Liberal split the season series with the road team winning all four games. LHS is 17-2 for the first time since 2009. They are 6-1 in the WAC. The Buffaloes are 9-11 and 5-3 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Dodge City Thursday night for Senior Night. Admission is free thanks to National Beef. The game airs on 1270 and kscbnewse.net.
