Shoe is On Other Foot in LHS Cross Country

Brock Kappelmann - September 1, 2016 9:23 am

For years the Liberal girls cross country team was an up and coming program while the boys stacked strong senior class after strong senior class.  This year the shoe is on the other foot as the LHS girls have experience while the boys are young.  Both programs are strong under 7th year head coach Tyson McGuire who is also the head track coach.  The boys have been to state six of the past seven years despite missing last year.  The girls have made state as a team four consecutive years.  McGuire has 30 boys and 28 girls out for cross country.  Currently, the girls varsity includes Sr. Cam Slatten, Fr. Katie Horyna, Sr. Yanelly Jurado. Sr. Saw Ahmara, Jr. Kelsey Ramsey, Jr. Alondra Alvarez, Sr. Chloe Alling, and Fr. Erica Valverde.  Slatten has won two straight WAC titles.  The boys team is young with So. Antonio Borunda, So. Javier Carrillo, So. Joel Obando, So. Xavier Perez, So. Josh Diazdeleon, Jr. Dusty Torres, Jr. Austin Mullens, and So. Fausto Perral.  The cross country boys were featured during the Thursday morning Sportsguys.
