Gordon B. Burton

Gordon B. Burton, age 81, of Elkhart, Kansas died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born October 9, 1931 in rural Felt, Oklahoma the son of Walter Reed and Anna Lois (Ford) Burton.

Gordon grew up in Felt and graduated from Felt High School. Gordon married Yvonne Webb on October 20, 1963 at the James Church of God near Texhoma, Oklahoma. They have lived in Elkhart for 44 years. Gordon was a fieldman for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 29 years. While he worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline he also pursued his lifelong passion of farming and continued to farm throughout his retirement. Gordon was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher for several years. Gordon had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed life.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of the home; daughters, Jana Buhr and husband Bob of Ulysses, Kansas, Julie Buck and husband Darren of South Elkhart, Kansas, Jill Deatherage and husband Ryan of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; brother, Wendell Burton and wife Opal of Boise City, Oklahoma; sisters, Wathena Watt of Amarillo, Texas, Helen Miller and husband Jack of Buffalo, Oklahoma, Anna Carol and husband Buckey of Walters, Greeley, Colorado, Christine Schoenhals and husband Eugene of Panhandle, Texas, Gladys Schneider and husband Dennis of Cimarron, New Mexico; and six grandchildren, Sydney, Ethan, and Karah Buck, Andrew, Aubrey and Amy Deatherage; nieces, nephews and friends.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Doris Thornton, Mary Alice Durman, and brothers, Troy Burton, Doyle Burton and Dallas Burton.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Ed Richards and Brother John Henley officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas with family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
