Earl L Burns, 73 of Tyrone, Ok went to be with the Lord July 26, 2013 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
Earl was born December 18, 1939 in Larned, Ks, the son of Robert Lee and Mabel Hinderliter Burns, the 3rd eldest of 7 children. He graduated in 1959 from Kinsley High School in Kinsley, Ks. After graduation Earl joined the Navy at the age of 19. While stationed in San Diego, California, he met his beautiful bride Jo Ann Kemper. They married August 27, 1961 in Ocean Beach, Ca.
During Earls tenure in the Navy, he traveled to many different countries; station in Hawaii, and Florida then returning to San Diego where he was stationed at NTC where he trained new recruits as a Company Commander Chief Petty Officer until he retired in January 1980.
He then moved his family to Tyrone, Oklahoma where he worked for Halliburton for 6 years, then Air Product Helium in Liberal for 20 years. He retired for a short time, then later returned to work part time for Trimac, where he worked until his passing.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years Jo Ann of the home, his 3 children, Sherry Goldstein and her husband, Rick of Denton, Tx, his 2 sons, Paul Burns of Liberal, Ks, and Robert Burns and wife, Mary Jo of Yukon, Ok.; 3 grandsons, Shawn Vorhies, Denton Tx, Trevor and April Burns of Ponca City Ok, Ryan and Jennifer Burns of Liberal, Ks, and step grandchildren Tasha and Nick Daughtery. His 5 great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Kaden Vorhies, Jaythen, Jacob and Sofia Burns. His 2 brothers, Claude Burns and wife, Barbara, Ray Burns and wife, Pam all of Hooker, Ok.; 2 sisters, Ruby McKinley of Longdale, Ok and Barbara Harper of Colorado, and his faithful dog companion, Chubby. Many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers Robert and Ronnie Burns.
Earl was one of the most giving individuals anyone could have met. He enjoyed life to its fullest, and his wife being the love of his universe. He enjoyed his family immensely, loved traveling, gardening, and watching his favorite baseball team The Texas Rangers – he rarely missed a game.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tyrone Baptist Church in Tyrone Ok with Rev. Gary Stone officiating. Burial will follow at the Hooker Cemetery, Hooker, Oklahoma.
