Mary Vanna Day, age 81, died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Satanta Long Term Care in Satanta, Kansas. She was born November 12, 1930 in Henryville, Tennessee, the daughter of Julius Abner and Velma Antnette (Gregg) Giles.
Mary, a homemaker, moved to Ryus at age 12 from Breckenridge, Texas. She graduated from Satanta High School. Mary was a lifeguard at the Satanta Swimming Pool. She owned a motel in Guymon, Oklahoma and a trailer park and laundromat in Elkhart, Kansas. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ. On March 30, 1950 she married Jack Day in Garden City, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Diana Morisse and husband Steve of Moscow, Kansas, Vicki Sinning and husband Bill of Elkhart, Kansas; two brothers, Clyde Giles and wife Betty of Satanta, Bud Giles and wife Jackie of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Anita Brown and husband Troy of Sublette, Kansas, Roberta Lewis of Satanta, Kansas; ten grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents ; husband; son, Bradley Wayne Day in 2006; siblings, Aubra Giles, Jettie Lea Giles, Margie Hagerman, and J.A. Giles.
Graveside service will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at 6:00 PM at the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the Satanta Long Term Care in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
