Evan Perry Branch, age 71, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born February 17, 1941 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Perry Howard and Neva (Michael) Branch and step-mother, Minnie Grace (Owen) Branch.
Evan’s family moved to Walsenburg, Colorado when he was nine years old. After graduating from Walsenburg High School he served in the U.S. Navy. After the service, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he met Billie Young. They were married on May 31, 1964 in Ulysses. Evan and Billie moved to Ulysses in 1967 where they raised their family. He was a school bus driver for USD #214 and drove the activity bus to school events. Evan also owned and operated Branch Septic Tank Cleaning and Young’s Rentals for many years. He enjoyed attending NASCAR races and exploring the world by motorcycle with his wife, Billie. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge #435, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriners, Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79, Order of the Eastern Star #471, Jaycee’s, and the American Motorcycle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Branch of the home; son, Chris Branch and wife Lana of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter, Vickie Branch of Fairplay, Colorado; cousin, Mary Lou Halchak of Kansas City, Kansas; grandson, Cameron Branch of Ulysses, Kansas; and several step-grandchildren.
Evan is preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Ulysses, Kansas with Minister Warren Baldwin officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with graveside rites by the Masonic Lodge and Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Memorial contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to the Church of Christ Scholarship Fund or Grant County Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
