Loren Puyear, age 80, of Denver Colorado; formerly of Johnson, Kansas, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born January 6, 1932 in Lakin, Kansas the son of Raleigh and Ophelya (Wheeler) Puyear.
Loren grew up in Johnson, Kansas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 – 1954 as a B29 aircraft mechanic. He married Margie Barnes on December 22, 1951. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Loren returned to Johnson and began farming. Loren married Rebecca Sage on August 8, 1999. He was a 32 Degree Mason of the Wichita Consistory; a member and past master of the Johnson Masonic Lodge #441, and received his 50 year membership pin from the Johnson Masonic Lodge #441; and was also a member of the Median Shrine of Wichita, Kansas. Loren was a pilot, enjoyed drag racing and tractor pulls.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Puyear of Hooker, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Puyear of Johnson, Kansas; one daughter, Lisa Welch of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Davis and Linda Puyear; and stepbrother, Harrold Card.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Don Hasty officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with graveside rites conducted by the Masonic Lodge #441 and the VFW Post #3684. Friends may call Monday, April 9, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
