Wilbur Lowell Long

Wilbur Lowell Long, 74, of Tyrone, Oklahoma passed away March 2, 2012 at his home.

Wilbur was born April 15, 1937 in Harmony Township, Illinois, the son of Clifton Clair and Blanche E. Austin Long. He attended country school and graduated from Carthage, Illinois High School with the Class of 1956 where he played football. He worked for Swiss Cheese, driving truck, picking up bulk milk. He also farmed for Albert Johnson and later worked as a bus driver and janitor of Union Douglas School south of Carthage. For twenty-three years he worked for Cargill in Hancock County.

Wilbur was united in marriage to Sandy Marie Morrell in 1959. She passed away in 1997. After Sandy’s death he moved to Hooker, Oklahoma working for Hitch #1 and then Seaboard for seven years. Wal-Mart was the last place he worked retiring in 2007.

He liked fishing, coffee with friends, Tyrone sports, tractor pulls and demolition derby’s. He enjoyed being outside and enjoyed yard work.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Sandy.

Survivors include his two sons, Alan and wife, Cindy Long of Tyrone, Oklahoma and Christ and wife, Penny Long of Satanta, Kansas; two sisters, Yvonne Bryant of Denver, Illinois and Suzie Faulkner of Burlington, Iowa; five grandchildren, Lance, Shana Rhea, Shaylen Morgan, Jan Roitz and Shayli Roitz, and nine great grandchildren.

Services are pending with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
