Elena Nevarez

Elena Nevarez, age 57, of Hugoton, Kansas died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born April 4, 1954 in Juarez , Mexico , the daughter of Alfredo and Aurelia ( Zamora ) Bernal.

Elena was a clerk at Bloodhart Drug in Hugoton. She has lived in Mexico , California , New Mexico and Kansas ; settling in Hugoton , Kansas the last ten years. Elena was a CNA at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart and Pioneer Manor in Hugoton. She enjoyed remodeling and decorating her house. Elena loved caring for her dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Vicente Uranga of Hugoton, Kansas; three sons, Edward Nevarez of Las Cruces, New Mexico, David Nevarez of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Jose Luis Nevarez of Hugoton, Kansas; two daughters, Elena Nevarez of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Linda Galindo of Ulysses, Kansas; mother, Aurelia Espinoza of Mexico; two brothers, Enrique Espinoza and Samuel Espinoza both of Mexico; two sisters, Alma Espinoza and Rachel Espinoza both of Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her father.

Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Trong Binh Tran officiating. Cremation will follow service. Visitation will be Monday, January 9, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Elena Nevarez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave , Ulysses , KS 67880 .
